Hello, this is Justin Coleman and this is The Master Sales Funnels Podcast, Episode 11. Working our way into the double digits. I’m pretty excited about that.
Today, I wanted to talk about getting started on your journey.
Getting started sometimes can be the hardest part of the whole journey. I mean, you overthink things. You try to plan and then the doubt creeps in.
There’s always the doubt, even if you’re a success already. I mean, you still have doubts about things and imposter syndrome always kicks in.
You know, you start to get a little success and then you wonder if it’s really supposed to be you that’s doing all of this, helping all of these people.
Are you really qualified to help people?
And all of that’s going to kick in anyways. So the point is that if you have a goal or a vision, you have to start right now. You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment.
You don’t need to wait for the perfect financial situation. I guess, depending on what business you’re going into. But I mean, most things you can start off super simple and just get going.
If I would have waited until I had a cool intro for this podcast and a perfect mic, I have a mic, but I don’t have time to record at home usually. So I record on my phone.
I’m driving in my car right now. You can hear my blinker, you can hear, I don’t know, I’m not a car person. I have some kind of strut or something out in the back since I bought this thing.
And it squeaks and you can hear the noise of the traffic, and it’s not perfect. But I started. I mean, that’s the point is you get started.
You have to work out the kinks in whatever you’re doing. You have to to learn along the way. If you wait until you’re a success to start, some people aren’t going to relate with you as much.
I mean, I’m calling my shot right now. If you’re listening to this with me, and it just came out in October of 2020, then thanks for joining me on the journey. But in calling my shot, I’m guessing a lot of you are coming back from, say, like the 200, 300th episode of this podcast where I’ve found more success because I started and I kept going.
You have to get that start in order to get the practice and the knowledge you need to get to where you want to be. And I mean, I’m not a success right now, but I’ve started.
I got the blog rolling. I do that multiple times a week. I make videos for YouTube on occasion or for the blog. I got this podcast rolling with, like I said, just literally it’s just a phone, a bCast account and some knowledge on funnels.
I don’t have to be a master right now. You don’t have to be a master right now. You just have to be one chapter ahead in the book of the people that you are teaching.
There is no perfect moment.
You have to get started on whatever you’re passionate about. If you don’t know how to do what you want to do, learn it. YouTube has tons of free videos. There’s free trainings out there. I started over a little over a year ago, August 2019, I took the One Funnel Away Challenge.
That was really, not my first experience with funnels, but my first experience with funnels as I use them now in a linear sales-type fashion. And then I spent about a year not really doing anything with that knowledge.
But once I started to teach about funnels and teach other people about what I already knew, the concepts came into more of a solid focus. And now I actually know what I’m doing with this type of stuff.
So I’m a big proponent of getting started and learning through teaching. And again, you can hear my blinker because I’m in the car and I’m on my way to my full time job.
Funny story is when I started this podcast, I was probably four episodes deep, which I’m doing one a week right now, so that’s about a month in. And my dad called me and he said, “Son, I’ve been listening to your podcast and it sounds OK, but you’re telling people that you’re on your way to your full time job and that you’re not a millionaire right now”.
He said, “don’t you want to be projecting that you have more success?”
And my answer was exactly what I’ve told you already. Like, if you’re with me on this journey and this episode just aired, thank you. But I’m teaching one to two chapters ahead in the book right now.
And the cool thing is, is that this is a resource for me going forward. This podcast episode is going to be up on all the directories that bCast listed me on for the foreseeable future. And this episode will serve as a good reference of, “oh, he was working a full-time job like I am when he started and he was super busy, had no time to do this, but he did it anyways”.
So my conversation with my dad really just kind of proved the point that it doesn’t matter right now, really, what people think of this. If you’re enjoying this, again thanks for listening. I hope you’re here all the way through as I continue to do this podcast.
But the point is that you’re getting motivation from this. You’re getting more knowledge from this. You should know that you’re not going to go from zero to a million dollars in a week unless you’re real damn lucky.
We’re on this journey together and you need to take people on your journey with you. You need to start whatever you’re doing. You need to start your blog, definitely. I think everybody should have a blog. You need to cast that net out there to try and get people.
Things like SEO take time, so if you start now, you’ll begin to rank for more things over time and you can make improvements on articles as you go. So in order to have time on your side for your blog, you need to start now.
The same thing with the podcast, if you don’t have a podcast, I think bCast has something like $15 a month. I mean, skip your coffee once a week and you can pay to get your podcast out there. They list you on all the directories.
Click the little logo on whatever player you’re watching me on right now. And you’ll probably get there or go to the show notes for this episode and you can click on the logo there and you’ll get there.
I’m an affiliate. Just assume everything in this podcast is an affiliate link, because that’s what I do. You should know that by now. If you’ve listened to me from the beginning, you know, I’m an affiliate. Just assume everything is an affiliate link.
And you should be doing the same, too. If you don’t have a product, become an affiliate. Ask me, email@example.com. I have a lot of programs that would be good for you to get started with affiliate marketing.
And there’s affiliates for everything. So even if you don’t have a product, you can get started with affiliates in any industry.
There are ways to start now.
There are ways to start delivering your message now.
I’m pretty much sure every single one of you has a smartphone. Grab it, start recording yourself, put it on YouTube, make sure you turn it sideways, because straight up and down shooting is not good. Turn your phone sideways and start recording your message. Get it out there.
These are things that you can do with resources you already have.
Russell Brunson started his podcast in his car. Steve Larson started his podcast while he was working for ClickFunnels.
You need to get so many episodes deep before you master this kind of thing. You need to get so many blog posts deep before, well one, before Google starts recognizing you and ranking you, but also to get that experience in your messaging.
What do you stand for?
You need to find your groove so you can be the master later.
I mean, everybody has to start at novice. You got to get from novice to master. You have to get started.
So wherever you’re at in your journey, I really hope that this has inspired you to get going.
There are no more excuses past this point.
If you’re having trouble figuring out what you want to do or what the first step really is, like I said, you can reach out to me, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Or you can head to mastersalesfunnels.com, fill out the contact form. I’d really like to hear from you. I want to be able to help you take that next step.
I want to provide you with the resources that you need. And I’m trying to provide you with the knowledge that you need through the blog and through this podcast.
I’ve been in this world of, I don’t know what you call it, the Internet, commerce on the Internet, trying to make money from the Internet since 2016.
I’ve already told that story. When my daughter was going to be born, I wanted to jump in and I spent four years learning.
I mean I was blogging during a lot of that time and I’d throw out a YouTube video now and then, but I didn’t even get serious about it until 2020, when I started seeing mild success from one of my endeavors. Then I really started to buckle down.
You need to take the time to learn, but while you’re doing that, like I said, you just need to be a little bit ahead of everybody else.
You can start teaching. You can start sharing your knowledge and helping others.
I’ll have some resources on just different ways I think you can get started in the show notes. Anything from how to get your own blog started, which will have resources for hosting and WordPress themes. Also, you could get started with a funnel through ClickFunnels.
I would recommend starting with the One Funnel Away Challenge though, so you can get a little bit of knowledge.
And as we know, mindset is very important. I feel like that’s about all I got from my master’s degree was mindset.
So whatever starts you on the right path is that first step that you need to take. If any of the resources that I have listed don’t seem to fit you, like I said, reach out. I’m always here to help.
Today’s show notes can be found at mastersalesfunnels.com/011.
If you’re listening to this in October of 2020. Again, thank you so much for joining me on this journey.
I hope I can help you along the way.
And if you are listening from coming back and bingeing from episode 200+, then I’m glad that I called my shot now.
That’s not an I told you so.
That’s just kind of inspiration for you because I’m here now and I’m there then.
So you know that it’s possible, you know, that you can do this.
I’m dropping the message from the past and it’s telling you, get started!
